Sterilisation Clinic
Ideally we would love to run 2 or 3 Sirius 500 Clinics each year but we simply cannot afford it currently , so in order to keep on top of the ever-growing requests from local owners to have thier animals sterilised we offer ( when Veterinary staff & funding levels allow ) sterilisation days at our clinic base in Randeniya sterilising between 6-10 animals a day.
On arrival each Animal receives a pre-op clinical examination and has a history taken, is weighed , drug dosages calculated and a chart assigned. Animals are given a pre med , analgesic and antibiotic cover and once suitably sedated they are placed on a IV Catherer to be fully anaesthetised. The surgical site is shaved and aseptically prepared.
Once the animal has been moved to the operating table its placed on a drip ( excluding cat castrations ) Every surgical kit ( instruments and drapes ) is sterilised prior to surgery in either our gas or electric autoclave and a fresh surgical kit blades & needles are always used for each animal. In female animals the entire uterus and ovaries are removed ( ovariohysterectomy ) and incisions are no longer than 3 cm . The testes of male animals are removed ( castration ) . An assistant monitors and ensures each animal remains anaesthetised during the entire procedure. For all animals the suturing is internal using only high grade absorbable suture material , in fact its often hard to tell where the incision was
Animals are not permitted to leave the clinic until they have recovered from the aneastisia and owners are given full post op care information and support. Any follow up care can be given via either our mobile clinic team or at our weekly fixed clinics
