FAQ
Where is Dogstar based in Sri Lanka
We are based in Randeniya on the Rambukkana/Pinnawala Road near the town of Kegalle, Sabaragamuwa Provence.
Can you take /collect a dog I found on holiday after I go home?
Normally the answer will be no we cannot take in dogs from outside our area. The area around our clinic is already home to a number of sterilised and vaccinated ex street dogs & cats and is currently at capacity. We are a very small Charity and we don’t run a shelter or have kennels. We work direct with owners, with street dogs in situ or at one of our local supported Buddhist Temples.
Do you arrange adoption for dogs back to the UK?
No we only arrange adoptions within our local community in Sri Lanka. We are able to use our limited resources to tackle the problems of overpopulation, disease & suffering by treating the maximum number of animals possible in Sri Lanka rather than moving a small number to another country
If you would like to adopt a dog in the UK we can provide details of rescue centre’s nationwide who would be delighted to hear from you.
So what do you do to help dogs in Sri Lanka then?
Our aim is to reduce canine / feline headcount by humane population control (Surgical Sterilisation) increase the health & wellbeing of that population by providing vaccinations against Rabies, Distemper, Hepatitis, Leptospirosis and Canine Parvo Virus. Education of our local community on animal welfare issues and dog bite/ rabies prevention, we provide free Veterinary treatment to owned and street animals and feeding programs at Temples. We also fund research into Rabies in Sri Lanka and work with local Vets providing funding, training and equipment
How are you funded
We are a registered Charity that is currently 100 % funded by the donations from our supporters and trustees. In 2010 – 2011 we are exploring the possibility of applying for grants and or Corporate Sponsorship for infrastructure and equipment but our running costs will continue to be met by donations.
So do your volunteers and trustees get free holidays in Sri Lanka?
No, the individuals pay for 100 % of their travel, flight costs, and living expenses.
