This morning Mo and Sampath went to bath Teddy who had treatment for fleas and mange last week. We hope he looks a bit better at our next visit. Teddy has the most lovely eyes….

In Diyagama we caught up with lovely Lassy who needed routine wormer and also flea treatment – a far cry from the pup of July 2011!

 This is Lassy in July 2011 when Dogstar first started helping her.

From Diyagama we went to Kolongalla – the idea was to give medicated baths to 2 dogs there at the same house…but neither was at home! Here’s the brick factory there and loading the tractor with made bricks.

 Back at Dogstar House, a quiet moment for Dingo and Chester.

Amputee Milo continues to do well and is almost as fast on 3 legs as Dingo and Chester are on 4!

Kitty was taken to Dr. P’s surgery suffering from rigid neck muscles. He was treated and will be seen at the Friday clinic at Dogstar House.

Pippa has had a chronic abscess on her neck for some time, which has recurred after surgery several months ago. The team decided to do further surgery today.

Pippa recovered well and returned home several hours post surgery. She will be given a course of treatment and will have to wear ‘socks’ to stop her scratching for several days.

Coco – who was rehomed last September – was also sterilised. Her owners are moving so Dogstar driver Sampath has offered a home for her with his other dog Poppet.

Chester post-surgery. She’s recovered well and apart from being just slightly less bouncy than usual, it’s hard to believe she’s had an operation!

 Local dog Mickey has had a skin problem for several weeks. His caring owner brought him today for further assessment.

Mickey has an inflammatory skin problem which looks very sore.  He received further treatment today and will be checked again very soon.

 Until recently, Judy was a street dog. She has a badly set broken leg and has been treated at a previous mobile clinic for transmissible venereal tumour (TVT).

 Judy now lives between 2 houses in Hiriwadunna where she is fed daily. She was sterilised today and had further TVT treatment.

 Up and ready to go home – Judy with her new collar. Her TVT will be checked after a week to see if any further treatment is needed.

 The final case today was Milo. She lives on the street in Kegalle and was hit by a vehicle a month or so ago. Very kind locals took her to the University where she had an operation, but sadly her leg healed badly.

 Milo’s foot was turned under and had wounds which were unlikely to ever heal. The team decided to amputate the affected limb. Milo will stay at Dogstar until Friday at least for nursing but is already sitting up.

Lovely Peggy – who had a large leg tumour and mammary tumour removed 18 months ago – is in fine form and came for her annual rabies booster.

 Dickie was put into an enclosed area of the Temple but still kept an eye on events by poking her head through the wall!

For Chester and Dingo, the morning started off with a bit of playing.

 Chester, who would wear anyone out, keeps playing while Dingo has a rest.

 Our first stop was to see Kalu, who was rehomed by Dogstar. He was showing signs of mange so we gave him treatment and he will be followed up by the mobile clinic. He certainly is a happy and wriggly boy! He barely stayed still long enough for a quick picture!

 Mona was the next rehome checkup. She’s looking very healthy and happy.

 This is Mona’s friend, Lassie. She wasn’t so sure she wanted to meet Sampath and Erin!

Patty was given a medicated bath for his skin today. He will be followed up at the next mobile clinic to see if he’s made any improvement.

 This is Mickey, another successfully rehomed dog! Here he is in his raised dog bed, looking proud.

Last stop was to see Bobby who lives two doors down. He was treated for mange on his neck.

Vet Erin with lovely Maggie who fractured a leg last week. She came to us for a check today and had her splint renewed. We’ll see her at home tomorrow again but she’s doing well and racing around.

This lovely girl damaged her leg in an accident but her leg has set badly following previous veterinary care and she now walks on the joint. Erin cleaned and dressed her wound and she will be seen again tomorrow.

 Tommy arrived bright and early this morning needing anti-rabies vaccination and treatment for fleas.

Timmy came last week with a recurrence of a tumour. This was treated and he had a second course of anti-cancer drugs today. His mass is much reduced and we’ll keep a close watch on progress .

We also made a few quick visits on Monday, Jan 30th. This is Teddy, hiding from volunteer vet Erin to try to escape getting his next vaccine.

 We also checked on Maggie May to see how she was getting on with her cast. She ran up to greet us on three legs!

This little one was keeping Maggie May company.

Our first stop for today (Jan 31st) was to see Luna who was left at a temple in October 2010. Here she is keeping out of the heat in her raised dog bed that her owners made for her.

 It was quite a hike up to see Luna! Sampath heads back to the tuktuk after our visit.

Next we went to check Simka’s surgical site. It’s looking beautifully healed and he certainly gets around much more quickly without that big buster collar on!

 Simka’s neighbour, Rosie, was rehomed last year by the Dogstar team.

Millie is another beauty who was rehomed by Dogstar. She’s definitely full of energy.

Tim has been suffering from mange so we gave him a medicated bath today. Here he is feeling a bit sorry for himself after his bath.

 Jimmy had been treated previously for a wound on his tail. It’s looking much better and with his treatment today it should be fully healed soon.

 Back at the Dogstar house we found Tobias, head of security, sleeping on the job….again!

The whole team were together today when Dr. P and Erin sterilised another 6 patients – 3 females and 3 males. Another 3 operations will be done tomorrow.

Tommy came to the Friday Dogstar House clinic for treatment for his fleas.

Lucky and Tommy were brought for their anti-rabies vaccination by their caring owners.

 Before we started Saturday’s sterilisation clinic, rehomed Maggie May (now known as Brownie) was brought in with a fractured hind limb. Erin prepares to splint the limb.

 Ready to go home!  Maggie May will come to the next Friday clinic for a check up and will keep the splint on for at least 2 weeks.

 Sanda was also found to be suffering from TVT (transmissible venereal tumour) and was treated. He’ll come back next Friday for a further check.

 Another rehome – Biba – in surgery. Dogstar undertakes to sterilise all our rehomed dogs when they are 4-5 months old.

 Biba recovered very quickly from surgery and was soon wagging her tail. When the vets were certain she was OK, her owner was able to take her home.

 Vets Erin Murphy and Dilrukshi Jayawardene get ready to head off for today’s clinic sponsored by Belinda Bekker.

 First stop was Simka who had a large tumour removed a week ago (he was checked earlier this week too) – he’s doing well and his wound has almost healed.

 Simka will wear his collar for a few more days until his wound is completely healed.

Chutiya is suffering from a respiratory tract infection and was given treatment – he’ll be followed up soon to check progress.

Mo had a call from the head monk at Beragalla Temple outside Kegalle asking for help with a number of dogs there so the team visited today and got a noisy welcome!

Raja had his anti rabies vaccination and was also treated for mange.

No wonder the team ran out of vaccine – there were so many requests!  Another visit will be made soon to provide protection for other dogs there.
